Click on the RTF icon next to “Citation Worksheet.” This will open in Word. After opening, save in your personal folder. You will have time to work on this now, and Ms. Fuhrmann may or may not require you to complete this. However, it will be good to save this for future use.

Today we will be looking at different examples of citations for thorough analysis. On the AP test, you will be required to know:

1.) What each part of a citation will look like…..and
2.) How to interpret and analyze a citation.

These are the basic parts to a citation. They are listed in correct format and order.

1.) Author is listed first. The author’s last name will always be listed before the first name. Thomas, Stephanie A.

2.) Second is the title of an article. It will be listed with quotes around it. “The best article in the world.” If there is no article, or it’s not a chapter from a book, the citation will skip this part and go directly to the SOURCE.

3.) Third, is the source. This could be a brand of encyclopedias, or a magazine, or the publisher of a book. This will be underlined or in italics depending upon format.

4.) Next will be a number that will indicate a volume if it’s part of a set. example: 58.

5.) Next is the copyright date. It could be listed with the day and then the year, or just the year.

6.) Last is the number of pages.

Some differences with electronic resources:

For electronic databases, the SOURCE will be underlined. Like the e-magazine name or e-encyclopedia name. After it will be the database name, like EBSCO or WilsonSelect.

The URL of the article that you retreive or the website you are citing will always go last. It will be easy to recognize. It will have the http://…… in front

The date that an article was published online will always appear in the citation before the date accessed. It will be easy to differentiate. The earlier of the two dates is the copyright date (day published) and the later date will be the date accessed or date the information was used for the research.

When two words that are seemingly unrelated are first put together in such a way as to mean something together, they are put in quotes. Example: “Industrial Design.”

In a print, book citation, the book’s title will either be underlined or in italics because it is the SOURCE. In this case, since the title and the source are one in the same, the title in quotes is left out. However, if it is a particular chapter of a book, the title of the chapter will appear later in the citation in quotes.

QUESTIONS:

Line 49: The term “industrial design” was first used in 1913, and by 1927 the famed Norman Bel Geddes was calling himself an “industrial designer.”4

4.) The reference to the first appearance of the phrase “industrial design” (line 47) serves to

Our first Library Instructional Tutorial Vodcast on using the library’s resources is live. We’ll also post new video podcasts of resources and book reviews here. Any of the podcasts can be subsribed to through iTunes, and you can view them here or on YouTube. You can download these to any mp3 or mp4 enabled iPod or other player.

Not sure how to use the library’s resources? Then check out the new video podcast! You can view it full-size from THIS PAGE. Or, you can dowload them to use on your mp3 players or video mp4 iPods by downloading them either on YouTube or iTunes.

If subscribing via iTunes, you need to be under “podcasts.” Do a power search with the category “educaton” clicked. In the description box, type “parkrose.” There should be two.
